Every Christian at some point in their lives will have sung words and probably skimmed over the weight of them. They’ve probably forgotten that sometimes the words encourage and challenge us to live as per a disciple of Jesus and not pewfodder.
Jesus doesn’t want followers. He wants disciples. I think I may have said that in a previous post. It’s a strong challenge to me to not be a passive luke-warm out spitted individual, but to strive in the private times, the secret times, to honour God.
Here are a few snippets from worship songs that you may have sung at some point during your life. There’s truth, promise, grace, freedom, blessing, release, and it’s so easy to skim over them without seeing the depth of his love and the call to action.
Yes, I’ll sing the wondrous story
Of the Christ Who died for meMy chains fell off, my heart was free,
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way;Your name is like honey on my lips
Your spirit like water to my soulLonging just to bring something that’s of worth
that will bless your heartBe the fire in my heart
Be the wind in these sales
Be the reason that I liveMY Jesus, MY saviour
And as he stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
