Psalm 2:11
(NASB) – Worship the LORD with reverence. And rejoice with trembling.
(CEV) – Serve and honor the LORD; be glad and tremble.
(AMP) – 1Serve the Lord with reverent awe and worshipful fear; rejoice and be in high spirits with trembling [lest you displease Him].
When was the last time you trembled before the Lord?
In Proverbs 1:7 and Proverbs 9:10 it says… that fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. Furthermore in Isaiah 11:2-3 it suggests that the Holy Spirit will bring fear of the Lord as a blessing.
Don’t mix up the meaning of fear; Demons fear God, as is read in James 2:19 (AMP) – You believe that God is one; you do well. So do the demons believe and shudder [in terror and horror such as make a man’s hair stand on end and contract the surface of his skin]!
However, consider Psalm 130:3-4 (AMP) – (3) If You, Lord, should keep account of and treat [us according to our] sins, O Lord, who could stand? (4) But there is forgiveness with You [just what man needs], that You may be reverently feared and worshiped.
If you comprehend even a sliver of God’s character – creator of the universe, deafeter of death and sin, forgiver of sins, restorer of our souls – I would say it’s a perfectly rational response to tremble a bit!
